Embracing Growth Amidst Challenges

Writer: Bianca FotiBianca Foti

2024 was nothing short of a whirlwind—a year that tested us, shaped us, and ultimately, allowed us to grow in ways we never imagined. As a family run events business, the journey was not just about the professional milestones we reached, but also about navigating life's personal challenges.

Being a mum of two while pursuing a creative outlet in the events industry wasn't always easy. Every twist of a balloon and every meticulous design was crafted amidst the chaos and joy of family life. This year, our skills evolved, and I delved deeper into the creative process of acrylic designs. Weeding vinyl and applying it with precision—was also a technique that became second nature over countless late-night sessions.

Our journey into sourcing trending wedding favours was another highlight. What began as a quest to find the perfect wedding favours turned into an opportunity to serve multiple wonderful clients who trusted us with customising their special bonbonniere. This wasn't just about business growth; it was about the joy of being part of their celebrations and creating memories that would last a lifetime.

From many, many hours being personalised on my kitchen table, they made their way to the spectacular tables at Metropolis in Southbank.

One of the most unexpected triumphs was a TikTok video for a DIY cake stand from inexpensive Kmart products that received over 11k views. It was an achievement we could hardly believe.

This little victory was a testament to the power of creativity and the reach of social media, proving that even the simplest ideas can resonate with a wide audience.

Amidst these professional highs, my personal life was equally demanding. Balancing motherhood, a part-time job, and attending every family event was a juggling act. The hardest part of the year was journeying with my dad through palliative care and eventually grieving his loss to cancer. His fight, strength, and eventual passing profoundly impacted me, teaching me resilience and the importance of cherishing every moment.

Despite the grief and the relentless pace of life, client requests and event bookings kept coming. Each event we crafted was a reminder of why we do what we do—to bring joy, to celebrate life's moments, and to create beautiful memories for our clients.

2024 was a year of immense growth and challenges. But it was more than just a test of endurance; it was about laying the groundwork for an even more promising future. As we step into 2025, we carry with us the lessons learned, the skills honed, and the unwavering spirit to continue growing, creating, and celebrating.

Here’s to the journey ahead—paved with resilience, creativity, and the beautiful chaos of life. 🌟

Our family run business was founded on the traditional lands of the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung, who traditionally occupied Melbourne. On this land, and wherever we are in this country, we acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as first inhabitants and the traditional custodians of the lands where we live, learn and work.

We pay our respects to the Elders past, present and emerging.
